In January 2012, Vanderheyden joined CTV News Channel and became an anchor. While at the station, he has managed to cover different stories including the January 2017 inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump from Washington; covering the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia where he stayed for one month; covering the election of Pope Francis in March 2013; and finally the terrorist attacks on assignment in New York City on September 11, 2001.
Before that, he worked for CTV Montreal staying at the station for more than a decade. At the station, Vanderheyden co-anchored the station’s flagship weekday noon and 6 p.m. newscasts. First, he started his career at the station in January 2000 working as a reporter. In early 2003, he provided the investigative segment ON YOUR SIDE, which continued for five years before being promoted to anchor. In addition, during his tenure in Montreal, he was the recipient of various awards for his reporting such as three RTNDA awards and one CAB award.
Furthermore to television, he hosts a seven-day syndicated talk radio show known as “VIEWPOINTS WITH TODD VANDERHEYDEN” which airs during the end-of-week across iHeartRadio Canada talk radio stations. In brief, the show is as well found as a podcast on iHeartRadio Canada and everywhere podcasts are listened to.
In his time away from the usual work duties, he dedicates a good time to several local LGBTQ charities and community events, such as The 519, the Out on Bay Street conference, Rainbow Railroad, and the International Day of Pink.
