She also covered the Ferguson, Missouri, protests after an unarmed black teenager was shot and killed by a white police officer. She stayed for weeks while a grand jury deliberated and ultimately decided not to charge the officer. Their decision sparked two nights of rioting in Ferguson, but it also sparked nationwide protests and a national conversation about race and policing in America, as well as the formation of a state commission and a Presidential task force on policing.

She was part of the team that won a Peabody award for CNN’s coverage of the Arab Spring in the Middle East. Her reporting in Libya during the fall of Tripoli in the midst of rebel fighters has been acknowledged all over the world. Sidner received the Achievement of the Year Award from SKY WFTV Women in Film & Television in the United Kingdom in 2011 for her coverage of the Libyan war. Sara successfully led South Asian coverage from the New Delhi bureau while in India.

On November 26, 2008, terrorists attacked several locations in Mumbai, including the famed Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel, resulting in one of her first major international stories. She has so far collected two Asian Television Awards and two Alliance for Women in Media Gracie Awards.
