Paul serves as executive news editor of BBC News at One, Six and Ten, where he manages and leads a team of journalists and presenters delivering programmes for BBC One seven days a week. He joined BBC News Channel in December 1997 as a multi-skilled journalist. In October 199 he became a reporter a position he served for a year before being promoted to assistant editor in November 2000.
In January 2003 he became the assistant editor for BBC Breakfast. He later became the deputy editor in January 2004. He joined the BBC News at 6 and 10 in January 2007 as the assistant editor on the bulletins, editing programmes that included the breaking of the Cash for Questions scandal, the Rhys Jones murder, and the attempted Haymarket terror attacks.
In May 2009 he became the deputy editor where he used to edit the BBC’s flagship news programmes on a daily basis. Working closely with presenters and the BBC’s editors and specialist correspondents. As the deputy editor he played a leading role in all the major stories during that time – including the 2010 General Election, the many twists and turns of the Arab Uprisings, England’s riots and London 2012.
In January 2013 he was appointed as the new editor of BBC News at Six and Ten. In February 2019 he was promoted to executive news editor for BBC News bulletins across television and radio. In June 2021 he was named as the executive news editor of BBC News at One, Six and Ten.
Prior to joining BBC News Channel, he served as a reporter for Meridian broadcasting where he previously served as a researcher. He began his career at Southern newspaper where he worked as a journalist for 2 years.
