Lester Holt is an American news reporter and journalist for Dateline NBC and NBC Nightly News weekday edition. Following the demotion of Brian Williams, Lester was promoted to the permanent anchor of NBC Nightly News on June 18, 2015. Hence, he became the first African American to host as a solo anchor on a weekday edition newscast. Prior he served as an anchor, presenter, and international correspondent for CBS for 19years.

Holt was promoted as lead anchor for MSNBC daytime edition in 2001. Apart from anchoring, Lester worked as a moderator for presidential debates, including the Democratic Party presidential candidates’ debate and hosting the first presidential debate.

In addition to his major, he hosted a special for the History Channel, hosted Dateline on the ID edition of Dateline, and served for NBC Sports coverage of the 2008 Summer Olympics as a sports deck reporter. In 2015 following the demotion of Brian Williams, Lester was promoted to the permanent anchor of NBC Nightly news.
