Four candidates sought the Republican nomination: Lake; former real estate developer and Arizona Board of Regents member Karrin Taylor Robson; Paola Tulliani Zen, and Scott Neely. Lake and Robson were the front-runners, leading in polling and fundraising. A fifth Republican candidate, ex-congressman Matt Salmon, dropped out of the race after trailing in polls and endorsed Robson.
Lake received Donald Trump’s endorsement in September 2021. The primary was seen as a “battle” between Republicans aligned with Trump and establishment Republicans. Robson was supported by figures such as former Vice President Mike Pence, incumbent Arizona governor Doug Ducey, and former New Jersey governor Chris Christie. By the end of 2021, Lake had raised $1.4 million from 12,000 sources. Lake centered her campaign on promoting the false claim that the 2020 presidential election in Arizona and nationwide was “rigged and stolen”; Boris Epshteyn, a former Trump White House aide who promoted Trump’s efforts to overturn the election results, attributed her victory in the Republican primary, despite being “outspent 10-to-1,” on her stance. Arizona’s 2.3 million Latinos now make up a third of the state’s population, and the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials predicts 644,000 Latinos will vote in November 2022. Nationally, 11.6 million Latinos are expected to vote in the midterms.

Kari Lake Young Voter
Kari Lake bemoaned the challenges facing young people in America. Young voters typically don’t turn out like their parents or grandparents. Only about half of 18 to 24-year-olds voted in the presidential election in 2020. “The 2020 election record turnout for young people at 50%. That mean 50% of young people didn’t vote and the look at midterms and voter participation is even less.
Kari Lake Poll
Lake is an acolyte of former President Donald Trump. She’s a practitioner of Trump’s scorched-earth style of politicking, leaving no ad hominem attack behind. The way Lake and Trump play politics couldn’t be more different from the way the affable and uplifting Reagan conducted himself.
Lake did win a primary election against a credible and better-funded opponent. But it’s hard to credit that to her political chops. She was endorsed by Trump. Trump endorsees swept the Arizona primary — including for secretary of state and attorney general, where the winners had nothing going for them except Trump’s endorsement.
Arizona is still a Republican-leaning state. In registration, Republicans outnumber Democrats by more than 160,000 voters, or about 4 percentage points. In an off-presidential election, the GOP advantage in turnout should be even greater.
Kari Lake Fox Anchor
Kari Lake was a Fox TV anchor for decades. After working at Phoenix television station KSAZ-TV for 22 years, she stepped down from her anchor role in March 2021. She announced her campaign for governor of Arizona on June 1, 2021, and is the Republican nominee in the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial election. Rock Island, Illinois, U.S.
Lake was a longtime Fox 10 news anchor who in recent years has taken to peddling conspiracy theories and spreading outright misinformation. She’s something of a rock star on the right because she’s quick to criticize the media, unhappy with reporters’ tendencies to actually fact-check information.
Kari Lake Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s
Kari Lake, the Republican nominee for governor of Arizona, made light Monday of the violent assault against Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) husband. The Speaker was in Washington, D.C., when an intruder broke into her California home and attacked her 82-year-old husband, Paul Pelosi, with a hammer. Paul Pelosi underwent surgery for a skull fracture and significant injuries to his right arm and hands.
The suspect, David DePape, had allegedly called for Nancy Pelosi as he entered the home. Police have said the suspect told officers from the San Francisco Police Department that he wanted to kidnap the Speaker and hold her hostage and that he would break her kneecaps if she “lied.”
Kari Lake defeated by Katie Hobbs in Arizona governor race
Katie Hobbs the Democratic candidate for governor in Arizona, has defeated her far-right, Trump-endorsed opponent, Kari Lake, staving off a major threat to voting rights in the state.
Hobbs, who is Arizona’s outgoing secretary of state, defeated Kari Lake, a former TV anchor who denies the 2020 election results. Lake has refused to say if she would accept defeat this time around but tweeted “Arizonans know BS when they see it” after Monday’s result emerged. The Associated Press projected Hobbs as the winner on Monday evening with more than 95% of votes reported.
Hobbs celebrated her win on Twitter with the message: “Democracy is worth the wait.” she rose to prominence as a staunch defender of the legitimacy of the last election and warned that Lake would be an agent of chaos. Lake’s loss adds further evidence that Trump is weighing down his allies in a crucial battleground state as the former president gears up for an announcement of a 2024 presidential run.
Hobbs gained support and national recognition as Arizona’s top election official, defending the state’s results against a frenzy of disinformation and repeated efforts by Republicans to challenge and undermine Joe Biden’s victory in 2020, even as she became the target of death threats.
And in recent months, rightwing activists had aggressively operated in the state. Hobbs referred several complaints of voter intimidation to law enforcement and the US justice department. And members of the conspiracy theorist group Clean Elections USA had been photographing and intimidating election workers and voters outside the Maricopa county election headquarters in Phoenix.
Hobbs’s victory appears to be yet another sign that the Copper state, once a conservative bastion, has transformed into a political battleground. Demographic changes and a decade of activism by grassroots, progressive groups have helped amplify the voices of young and Latino voters, who have been helping deliver key victories for Democratic candidates.
