Joy Notoma is a Nigerian freelance writer and journalist based in New York, Benin, and northern France. She writes about the emotional landscape of migration, spiritual freedom, and global issues affecting black women. Joy is a fiction writer as well as a journalist. She was a finalist for the Epiphany Zine Fresh Voices Fellowship for emerging writers and a 2022 Kimbilio Fellow. Tin House, winter 2021, and The Hurston/Wright Foundation have both workshopped her fiction, in summer 2021. Her work has appeared in publications such as Epiphany Zine, The Woodward Review, Longreads, Catapult, Zora Mag, and CNN.

She founded the first Europe Chapter of Women Who Submit, an organization that encourages women and non-binary writers to submit literary work for publication. She leads two writing groups with participants from eight different countries and is a workshop leader with the New York Writers Coalition. She has a master’s degree in journalism from CUNY’s Newmark Graduate School of Journalism.

She currently resides in Toulouse, France, with her luminous toddler and hubs. She moved to France after spending two years in the Benin Republic, and she maintains a foot in both worlds.
