When Nine News Darwin stopped producing from its local Darwin studios in September 2017, Uptin moved to Brisbane and was hired as Samantha Heathwood’s co-presenter for twelve regional Queensland and Darwin broadcasts. He stayed in this capacity up until February 2018, when a network mix saw him switch to presenting the weekend news on the metropolitan Nine News Queensland report and occasionally standing in for Wally Lewis on the sports segment.

He also stands in from time to time as a nighttime presenter on the bulletin and on the nationwide Weekend Today show.
