Joel Bird is a British presenter and garden designer on Channel 4’s ‘The Great Garden Revolution’ & previously the garden designer/expert on BBC2’s ‘Your Garden Made Perfect’. He is also an artist, designer/maker, author and musician. He is author of ‘The Table Maker’ and ‘The Book of Shed’. In his spare time he follows his passions in life, painting and composing.

Joel is a modern folk artist inspired by graveyards, sea shanties and spaghetti western ride outs. He tells bitter sweet stories about the human condition some place between melancholia and Morricone. Joel Bird has supported Elvis Costello on his UK tour and toured America with his own band, he has also written soundtracks for TV, film & theatre productions.

Bird is a vintage dancer, he dresses in vintage clothing and he runs his own vintage festival ‘The Margate Swing Festival’. His love of jazz lead him on a path towards 1930-50’s culture, he dances a mixture of vintage styles often referred to as swing dancing, they include Lindy Hop, Charleston, Blues, Shag and Balboa. He has written articles and featured in publications such as ‘The Guardian’ talking about vintage style and culture. His festival is a celebration of all things vintage, with live jazz music, a wild swim, vintage style and of course dancing.
