Jimmy is an extreme engineer whose passion in fixing things stemmed from his frustration when toys broke. His early carrer involved the design and development of Action Man and Micro Machine toys for Hasbro. He was then invited to build a radio controlled paranormal search vehicle for Channel 5’s TV show Urban Gothic.
He then joined SFX house where he worked on various ventures including stage shows, music videos, adverts, interactive museum exhibits, feature films as well as factual, magic and live TV shows for five years.
He also worked as an approved 1st Option Safety Group Ltd engineering consultant for programs including Channel 4’s Scrapheap Challenge, Windfall Films’ Building the Bouncing Bomb, Dragonfly Productions’ Beat the Ancestors, National Geographic’s None of the Above 1&2, BBC Knowledge’s Factomania, and Discovery’s Breaking Magic.

De Ville is the owner, designer and engineer at Goblin Works Garage Limited alongside Helen Stanley (Custom car designer/builder) and Anthony Partridge (Motorcycle designer/builder). Goblin Works was an old British brand that died but the three resurrected it. The trio redesign and custom build “classic cars and badass bikes that aim to mess with people’s motoring perceptions!”

In the episode, Jimmy created the world’s first two-seater jet boat to find out if his engine is the ultimate ‘Indestructible Engineering Icon’. He hunted the legendary engine that powers military jets across the globe – the Rolls Royce Viper turbojet. He bought the engine on an abandoned Cold War airfield in the East of England. With the help of engineer and turbojet fanatic, Adrian Bennett they built a jet boat and tested it on the world famous waters of Scotland’s Loch Ness as it faces extreme vibration in an environment a jet engine was never designed to operate in.
Jimmy De Ville Military Career
He is a former soldier who is a qualified Class One Small Arms British Army Armourer involved with the development, maintenance and use of firearms and equipment. He is also a qualified Range Conducting Officer, combat medic and a top fifty shooting medalist.
He was deployed to Iraq where he provided force protection to UK assets, earning a General Officer Commanding’s Commendation in the process. In 2011 he was deployed to Afghanistan where he trained local forces in tactics, weapon handling and deployment.
