Kirschner has instituted legal proceedings for more than 50 murder trials, worked for four years as a deputy senior of homicide department between 2004 and 2010. Then in June 2018, he retired from the US Attorney’s office.
Soon after starting his task as an Army JAG, Kirschner first worked as an Army prosecutor at Fort Richardson based in Alaska. During his time there, he prosecuted and investigated court-martial cases and worked as legal advisor to the post’s numerous commanding officers. After spending three years in this role, he was transferred to the U.S. Army’s Legal Services Agency in Falls Church, Virginia, and became the government appellate attorney specializing in criminal appeals of court-martial prosecutions. He also managed murder and espionage cases and many more. Later he was released from his duties after spending more than six years working for the army.
Apart from that, Kirschner became a federal prosecutor and Assistant U.S. Attorney in June 1994 through the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia. This was followed by rotational tasks when he began to serve at the US Attorney Office Homicide Section which was managed by Robert Mueller in that particular moment.
In 2018, he was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers but before that, he had got several achievements such as the Chief of Police Medal of Honor in 2009 and 2010, the John F. Evans Award and the John F. Evans Award as well as the Harold J. Sullivan Award both from the Assistant U.S. Attorney’s Association.
