He began working with Nine New in 1971 but later left for News 10. He came back to Nine News in 1995 for the weeknight hour as a newsreader. Paige has also served as the anchor of a number of documentaries on the network, including the short-lived Queensland current events show Eye On Queensland that aired on Channel Nine in 1997.
Paige received criticism in November 2008 for making a mess of her co-presenter Heather Foord’s resignation from the evening news hosting post. To Foord, Paige remained emotionless and clumsily said, “I respect your decision.” In an effort to defend his remarks, Paige claimed that he had been pressed for time to end the bulletin.
Bruce declared at the conclusion of Nine News on 17th June 2009, that he would be leaving his position as host of Nine’s Brisbane bulletin. Not saying farewell but rather saying “see you later,” he adds that he and his wife will begin touring the World as he continues to help out at Nine. On 26th June 2009, he delivered his farewell bulletin. By this time, Nine News’ rating hegemony in the Brisbane area had waned.
Paige presented the news broadcast on her own when stepping in for Andrew Lofthouse and Melissa Downes on Nine News Queensland throughout the summers of 2009 to 2012.
