Asha Rangappa is an American, legal and national security analyst currently working at CNN. She’s also a senior lecturer at Yale Jackson Institute for Global Affairs. Previously she was an FBI agent.

Besides that, she has taught national security law and associated courses at the University of New Haven, Wesleyan University and also Yale Jackson Institute for Global Affairs.

Rangappa’s parents are Vinaya Rangappa and Jai Rangappa. Her parents are both from Karnataka, India however she’s a native of the U.S. Rangappa’s mother is a former accountant whereas her father was serving at the Virginia army base and he was also an anesthesiologist. Both of her parents wer immaigrants of U.S in 1970. Rangappa informed, “Elle” that her parents “came under a provision where the government was mainly searching for doctors,” under the 1965 Hart-Celler Act. Rangappa has one son called Paras Nikhil Dodd (born in 2006) and a daughter. She lives with her family in Hamden, Connecticut.

As a former FBI agent, following her graduation from Quantico Academy, she traveled to New York City to start her assignment as an FBI agent, focusing on counterintelligence investigations turning out to be among the first Indian Americans to be employed in this position. But Rangappa was in Quantico, Virginia where she started to train for this particular role in 2001.

Later in 2005, she resigned from the FBI to focus on her family. Moreover, Rangappa is part of the Connecticut Society of Former FBI Agents, the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame and the board of managers for the South Asian Bar Association of Connecticut
