Alicia studied at Loyola for 4 years, since 1994. She then joined Ivanhoe Girls Grammar School and later RMIT University, The Melbourne city campus, where she graduated with a class in journalism. She began her career as a journalist at the National Radio. She later joined to work with ABC News and Later began working with the Nine Network.

Loxley started working as a reporter for Nine News Melbourne in July 2008. She stepped in to present the Nine Afternoon News and Nine Late News in October 2009. She also provided news coverage on Today and Nine News Melbourne during the summer of 2009–2010.
She moved to Sydney in June 2010, taking Amber Sherlock’s place as a newscaster on Weekend Today, and she also served as Today’s newscaster on Mondays while Georgie Gardner hosted Nine News Sydney on Friday and Saturday.
She began showing up on Shane Warne’s variety show Warnie on the Nine Network in November 2010. Together with Jaynie Seal and Michael Usher, Loxley co-hosted Sydney New Year’s Eve in December 2010.
When Jo Hall scaled back her obligations to the Nine Network in November 2011, it was announced that Loxley will take over as the weekend host on Nine News Melbourne. Deborah Knight took Loxley’s place on Today and Weekend Today. Loxley has also stepped in for Tracy Grimshaw on A Current Affair, Peter Hitchener on Nine News Melbourne’s nighttime edition, Sylvia Jeffreys, and Lisa Wilkinson on Today.
